Why are the Caps a Playoff Threat?

6 Reasons the Capitals will Win the Stanley Cup

The Capitals are dominating the NHL. No team can stand in their way as they have a stacked organization from head to toe. Here are 8 reasons we know the Caps will get it done in 2020.

1. The Cap’s Fanbase

The Washington Capitals have been playing out of the Verizon Center for over 2 decades. Fans rally in Washington for their team and if you didn’t believe me, check out this photo taken of a fan as the caps won their first ever Cup.

2. The Grit of the Capital’s Team

Watching a Capitals ice hockey game is different than any other game in the NHL. You’ll observe a smash-you-in-the-mouth rag-tag tough gritty hockey team. And that’s what it takes in the NHL. With a new faster league with fast and light 18 year olds coming in every year, there needs to be a team to teach them how to play. The caps do this and it can get rough.

3. The Capital’s 4th line

The Caps will always be a hardworking team but many don’t believe this because of the overshadowing of the stars on the team. Yes, the Caps top guys get it done game in and game out night after night. But perhaps the real reason the Capitals can be so dominant is because of their 4th line full of grinders. Heavy hitters and hungry players. Not only does the capitals fourth line reek of success in the physical aspect, but in recent years they have proved to be goal scorers for the caps. This relieves pressure off of the Capitals top line and allows them to get back to scoring goals.

4. A Brick Wall in Net

Braden Holtby managing the pipes has proven successful year in and year out. In 2016 he took home the NHL most prized trophy a goalkeeper could receive. The Vezina trophy presented to the Leagues greatest preforming goalkeeper in a given year. He later proved why he won this only two years later back boning the Caps to a Stanley Cup.

5. Ovechkin and Backstrom

Perhaps the most dominant duo in the NHL returns for their 9th straight season together. Nicholas Backstrom, the Swede hockey phenom has only complimented the Alexander Ovechin’s goal scoring niche. The two have developed a connection on the ice like no other. Backstrom passes, Ovechkin finishes. Sometimes it seems a broken record is playing with how often these two find each other on the ice. The duo sealed all confusion as they brought a Stanley Cup back to Washington together in 2018.

6. The Caps Backbone Defense

The Capitals have always been known for their innate ability to produce scoring defensemen. From the days where Mike Green would shoot rockets from the blue line past goalies to present where our eyes are blessed with the production of the Capitals Powerplay. In the unfortunate event that an opposing player gets a penalty, you can be sure, Washington is going to CAPitalize. If Ovechkin doesn’t burn you with his lethal one-timer than odds are it will be going to Caps defensemen John Carlson. A threat as a goal scorer but also a feeder to one of the greatest goal-scorers this generation of hockey has seen.
